Our Story

A family living our dream — and sharing the keys.

Home Farm Healesville is run by Elizabeth and Matthew Lodge alongside their four young adult children. Situated on forty-three acres, with a food forest in the making and the superb, quiet bushland that adjoins Toolangi State Forest and its stunning Mountain Ash.

We homestead by chemical-free, all-natural principles, with bee hives, chickens, donkeys, sheep, alpacas, gardens and a simple belief: allow nature its freedom.

Enjoy the tranquil surroundings amongst native and non-native trees in our oasis of beauty. When you stay, you're part of that rhythm for a few days — or not, you may enjoy a long bath and a glass of something local if it's more your speed.

The Experience

What's waiting for you here

A handful of small pleasures we hope you'll fall into the moment you arrive.

Self-contained homes

Two houses, yours entirely. Book one, or for big groups (up to 25 people) book them both. Bring the people, bring the food — and a full breakfast is provided in the house for you to prepare at your leisure.

Open fires & wood heaters

Open fires in the gardens — a glass of something, a crackling fire, and a toasted marshmallow for the kids. Slow evenings, crackling timber, and a couch you won't want to leave.

Mountain views

BBQs with a long horizon — the Yarra Ranges right out the back.

Permaculture farm

Donkeys, sheep, alpacas, bees, chickens, a goat and the food forest (a work in progress). Meet the animals, feed the animals — or just watch.

The Cottages

Two homes, one farm — pick your size.

Stay for the weekend, or settle in for the week. Each cottage is fully self-contained with everything you need.

The Yarra Valley

Wineries, sanctuaries, slow drives through the hills.

You're an hour from Melbourne and minutes from some of Australia's best cellar doors. Spend a morning at Healesville Sanctuary, Four Pillars for a paddle of their award-winning gin, a long lunch at TarraWarra — or maybe you'd prefer an afternoon at the Yarra Glen Chocolaterie.

There are some lovely hikes, something to suit all, with an abundance of tree ferns, rivers and streams. Warburton is 40 minutes away with the Yarra River, bars, restaurants and markets.

Toolangi State Forest begins at our back fence. Maroondah Reservoir is a short drive. Hot air balloons drift over the valley most clear mornings. We're an hour from Marysville — enjoy a day in the snow at Lake Mountain. A favourite place to recommend is Bruno's Sculpture Garden in Marysville (absolutely superb).

Then head home to the tranquillity of Home Farm and enjoy the evening.
